LIT! (Literacy in Transit!) Hangouts are free monthly gatherings designed for children in grades K-4 that nurture reading confidence, physical activity, and meaningful social connections. Hosted in local parks and libraries across South Jersey, LIT! Hangouts offer families an enriching, low-barrier way to engage their children in educational fun.

Each 3-hour session includes:

• Interactive read-alouds and quiet book time
• Book giveaways so every child leaves with something new to read
• Physical games and free play to support movement and wellness
• Creative learning stations with coloring, vocabulary activities, or mini challenges
• A kind, inclusive environment that fosters friendship and social-emotional growth

LIT! Hangouts were created by a local South Jersey family with a passion for youth development, education equity, and creating safe, joyful spaces where children—especially those from under-resourced communities—can thrive.

Whether your child is a reluctant reader or a bookworm, every LIT! Hangout is designed to celebrate their curiosity and build positive associations with reading and learning.
