Awakening Change Counseling Services offers a confidential, weekly support group for individuals affected by problem gambling. This 90-minute group meets every week at our Voorhees, NJ office and provides a safe, non-judgmental space for participants to share experiences, develop coping strategies, and build recovery skills.

Problem gambling affects approximately 2-3% of the U.S. population and can lead to significant financial, relational, occupational, and mental health consequences. Research demonstrates that peer support groups are effective components of comprehensive treatment, improving treatment retention and long-term recovery outcomes when combined with professional interventions.

Our group utilizes evidence-informed approaches that address the cognitive distortions and behavioral patterns associated with gambling disorder. Participants will:

• Learn to identify triggers and develop relapse prevention strategies
• Build healthy coping mechanisms to manage urges and stress
• Address co-occurring concerns such as anxiety, depression, or substance use
• Repair relationships and rebuild financial stability
• Connect with others who understand the unique challenges of gambling recovery
• Access resources for continued support and professional treatment when needed

The group is facilitated by Janet Smith-Cook, LPC, LCADC, ICGC-candidate, who brings specialized training in addiction treatment. We maintain a supportive, structured environment that encourages accountability while respecting each person's recovery journey.

Funding Assistance Available: Through our partnership with the NJ Council on Compulsive Gambling, financial assistance is available to reduce barriers to participation for both group participants and their loved ones seeking individual sessions. No one will be turned away due to an inability to pay.
