As a provider for New Jersey’s Children’s System of Care, Rowan University’s Center for Applied Behavior Analysis provides both IIH (Applied Behavior Analysis) and ISS (Individual Support Services) to children and adolescents.

The goal of teaching individuals functional daily living skills is to increase their overall independence across the home and community settings. Increased independence will improve an individual’s contribution to the family unit, increase an individual’s autonomy and aid in the development of becoming an involved member of society.

Functional Daily Living Skills include:

  • Communication
  • Toilet Training
  • Hygiene and Dressing
  • Personal Grooming
  • Time Management
  • Money Management
  • Home Chores
  • Mealtime and Cooking
  • Transportation and Mobility
  • Safety Skills
  • Social Awareness

Problem Behavior Management
It is understood that some individuals with developmental disabilities may engage in inappropriate or problematic behavior. Often these behaviors may occur due to deficits in communication or skills. It is our goal to identify why these problem behaviors and decrease these problem behaviors by teaching appropriate replacement behavior skills such as functional communication, functional living skills and coping skills.

Parent and Family Training
Consistency is incredibly important when teaching individuals with developmental disabilities. While ISS staff are in the home and community assisting and teaching individuals functional living skills they will be training parents and family members on how to continue to teach and practice these skills when our staff are not present.
