FREE to Be
FREE to Be is a trauma- and gender-responsive peer support, leadership, and empowerment program for girls and young women ages 10–21 who live in Camden County, New Jersey. The program is offered by I'm FREE, a nonprofit organization with more than 15 years of experience providing trauma-responsive, healing-centered programs that strengthen the mental, emotional, and social well-being of women, girls, and families.
Funded by the Camden County Youth Services Commission, FREE to Be provides a safe, welcoming space where participants build confidence, strengthen communication skills, develop healthy relationships, and explore topics related to identity, emotional wellness, leadership, decision-making, and personal growth. Through structured, evidence-informed group activities and guided discussions, participants develop practical life skills while building positive peer connections and supportive relationships with caring adults.
The program offers two age-specific groups:
Ages 10–15: Tuesdays, 4:30–6:00 PM
Ages 16–21: Thursdays, 4:30–6:00 PM
Sessions are held at The HUB in Camden and are facilitated by trained staff in a supervised, trauma-responsive environment. Cohorts typically run 10–12 weeks, and enrollment is open. New participants are welcomed throughout the program as space allows, with an orientation process designed to help them transition smoothly into the group.
FREE to Be is especially beneficial for girls and young women who may benefit from additional support with emotional regulation, self-esteem, healthy relationships, life transitions, stress, or other adverse life experiences. There is no cost to participate, and transportation assistance may be available for eligible participants.
The program is open to girls and young women ages 10–21 who reside in Camden County. Referrals from schools, community organizations, healthcare providers, juvenile justice partners, and families are welcome, and self-referrals are encouraged.
